Employer Information

Wake Tech would like the opportunity to assist you with your employment needs. Please complete the employment request if you would like to give a Co-op student an opportunity for career exploration.

After receiving requests, the Co-op Office will review and forward student resumes for employer screening.

What about the work assignments?

Scheduling and Coordination
Work periods are scheduled to meet students' academic needs and employers' requirements. Students will be given work assignments that, insofar as possible, relate to their fields of study, interests and abilities and provide ascending levels of responsibility and training as students carry out their work assignments.

Selection and Appointment
A Co-op staff member will interview students who qualify academically and apply for the program to ascertain their educational and professional goals and their qualifications for available jobs. It is the employer’s responsibility to screen resumes, arrange for interviews and select those who will fulfill the job requirements best. Employers will then offer the job to selected students and the students will decide whether or not to accept positions.

Length of Employment
The co-op program is designed to provide students with at least one and in some cases two or more work periods (the program allows students to work full time during the period and return to school at the end of the term or work a parallel or part-time schedule while attending school).

Quality of Work and Study
The quality of work performed must meet the standards set by employers. Similarly, students must meet the academic standards set forth by the College. By mutual agreement, students who do not perform satisfactorily either in their work or studies will be dropped from the program.

Remuneration
Employers determine the rate of pay, they keep in mind the work assignments, background and educational level of the student, the work quality and the established policies of the employer.

Employer Networking Opportunity

As an employer, you and your agency may be interested in the North Carolina Cooperative Education Association (NCCEA). The purpose of the NCCEA is to provide an organization for all North Carolina educational institutions, employers, and individuals interested in Cooperative Education. Membership in the NCCEA will allow you to enhance working relationships with collegiate cooperative education programs throughout North Carolina. For more information regarding the NCCEA, please visit the Co-op Home Page at www.nccea.org
